Hosalkar on Connecting with Patients

Hosalkar believes one of the most important aspects of being a doctor is connecting with patients. By connecting with patients, a doctor creates a comfort level with the patient. This trust gives the doctor the ability to take the best course of action they deem necessary. Here are a few of Hosalkar’s tips on connecting with patients.

Make a Personal Connection – According to Hosalkar, a personal connection is the single most important way to connect with a patient. Patients like to be treated as people, not just customers or patients. Hosalkar shows genuine interest in his patients by asking questions – the second tip.

Ask Good Questions – Connecting with patients often relies on asking the right questions. Hosalkar believes that asking questions shows a patient that the doctor cares for them. Asking questions shows that the doctor is interested in their input and is not trying to push a hidden agenda. Hosalkar usually spends the first meeting with a patient asking a variety of questions.

Be Aware of Body Language – Body language says a lot about a person. Hosalkar is constantly aware of what his body language is saying. Hosalkar always makes good eye contact and responds to patients with genuine, caring expressions. It is important for doctors to show confidence and authority, while also showing personality and friendliness.

Show Interest – According to Hosalkar, it is important to be focused and show interest in the patient. Patients can sense when a doctor is not focused on their case or issue. Hosalkar makes it a point to tune out distractions and focus on one patient at a time.
